I just found out that I forgot to add the adjusted cost basis for my ESPP for 2023, what do I do now?

Hello,

I sold some ESPP in 2023, and I had forgotten to 'adjust' my cost basis and ended up losing money or getting double-taxed. I jsut found that out while reviewing my 2023 when filing my current 2024 taxes. In 2023, I had over $30k in capital losses, so adding the adjusted cost basis would have bumped the capital loss by $2,000 to around $32,000. So, the difference here is about $2k. I am not really 'losing' money per se, since I had that much in losses that will carry over to the following year but again, it would have added to my loss (If I am making any sense).

Question: Do I need to amend my taxes for 2023 and update the above? Will IRS give me trouble if I don't? I prefer not to go through the hassle of amending and just learn the lesson and forget about it.

Appreciate the help in advance.
