I indicated that I received unemployment, but was not asked for information from my 1099G. Why wasnt I required to include?

Unemployment stemmed from Covid and business closing.  I'm 18.  Do I need to start over and include the 1099G form?  I said I received it but was never prompted to enter the info.

No, you do not need to start over, however the 1099-G does need to be included on your tax return. If you have not already electronically filed your tax return, you can add the 1099-G.

To add the 1099-G to your existing tax return that has not yet been e-filed:

  1. Open TurboTax.
  2. Search for 1099-G and select the "Jump to 1099-G".
  3. On the Did You Receive Unemployment or Paid Family Leave Benefits in 2020? screen, answer Yes.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions to enter your 1099-G information.

If you have already electronically filed your 2020 tax return, you may need to amend it to include the 1099-G. You first will need to wait until your tax return was either accepted or rejected.

  • If your e-filed return is still pending. Wait until the return is accepted before amending.
  • If your return has already been accepted. You will need to amend your tax return.
  • If rejected, just make your changes and then resubmit or mail your return.
