I have TurboTax Home & Business desktop version. I want to file an extension (federal and state) and file 1040 (both) later by 10/15/2019.

Do I need to buy another TurboTax to file both? Or can I use same TarboTax to file both? Basically, I do not want to spend extra money to file 1040 later, but I do not have enough time to file 1040 now...

When using the desktop version of TurboTax you file your extension form 4868 by mail and you will still be able to use your purchased software to file your 2018 tax return when ready. You will also still be able to e-file your returns up until the extended due date on October 15, 2019.

Please view the TurboTax FAQ below for instructions on filing an extension.
