I have no child credit coming yet TT keeps telling me I need to fill out 8812

I have no child credit coming yet TT keeps telling me I need to fill out 8812.

I have deleted the blank form but it keeps telling me there's an error saying that I have to fix it before filing.

Did you say in My Info that you have a child?

Advanced child care credit was given to many taxpayers in 2021 based on their 2020 return.  That now has to be reconciled based on their 2021 return. Just complete the form. If you received no advanced credit just report that.

EVERYONE  filing a tax return this year will have to visit the CTC section of the program even if they are not claiming any dependents on the 2021 return because the program cannot KNOW who got a CTC advance last year.

This goes for the third stimulus payment as well  ... EVERYONE will need to answer those RRC questions.

And with the changes to the EIC more taxpayers will be eligible for it this year ... it is important to visit this credit as well.

Failure to complete any of these sections will result in error messages when you get to the REVIEW tab and you cannot efile with those errors.

So everyone needs to complete all sections of the TT interview and not skip the deductions & credits section this year even if they have in the past.

After trial and error, I was able to enter a 0 and override all.

then I went back to the original question and answered 0.

it went through.

not everyone will try all this, it's a bug and should be fixed.

At 71 years old, I have no dependents and have had none in 40 years.  I never listed any last year and many years before that and I have no deductions.
They should at least put a road sign on the page saying you must go thru the deduction questions whether you want to or not.

This is why if you are not going to read about the changes on the IRS website and prefer to use a DIY program then  you really must  follow the program interview completely and to not skip any steps even if you think you don't need a section.
