I have had my taxes reject twice now, and my third attempt is pending. The two times I have refiled, it says my SS# and/or last name or incorrect. What else can I do?

The IRS matches the first four letters of you last name and the last four digits of your social security number from your Social Security Card. Is you last name hyphenated or have you changed your name recently with Social Security?

If you have checked and re-checked to make sure that your name, date of birth and SSN were entered correctly, you are not going to be able to e-file if it is rejecting for your SSN.  You have to file by mail.  Print, sign and date it in ink, and mail it in.

Check with Social Security to see if there is a problem with the date of birth or name on your SS account.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
