I have entered the used clean vehicle tax credit information, and TurboTax online seems unable to process it correctly. (Transferred to dealer) Anyone have success?

I have already finished processing and paid for it so I can look at the actual tax forms. Where it should say 'married filing jointly' on form 8936 (line 5), TurboTax entered the numeral '2.' After that point it looks to have given up and not processed the rest of the form.

The number 2 on line 5 is a code for Married Filing Jointly. Because you transferred the credit to your dealer, there's no credit to generate for the rest of the form.

If you'd like, we can look at your return and see exactly what you see to  help come to a resolution. The return will be scrubbed and won't include any of your personal details.

If you're using TurboTax Online:

Once you're logged in to your account,

- on the left hand panel, click on Tax Tools and then choose Tools

- on the pop up window, select Share my file with Agent

- you'll see a message saying you'll give us a copy of your tax return. Your personal information will be changed so we can't see any private information.

- click okay and you'll get another message with a token

Please reply to this message with your token so that we can further assist you. Let us know what state is included in your return.

Thank you. My token is 1268577 and my state is California.

Thank you. That is reassuring. The feedback within the app when completing the section is misleading:

Your total Clean Vehicle Credit for a Previously Owned Vehicle is zero.

Note:If the credit amount is not the entire amount you were eligible for, you were either limited by the tax that you owe or other credits you have taken. Information you enter later for other credits and deductions may also lower this credit amount.

I am well below the income limit and have tax liability far greater than the EV credit even after other credits. That's what led me to look into the forms. There should be a different message for those who transferred the credit to the dealer to instill confidence that it is calculating correctly. Thank you!
