I have a health savings account (HSA). Why can't I file my taxes using the free Turbotax software? It forces me to upgrade to Deluxe (paid version).

I had a HSA in the past and Turbotax allowed me to file for free. What's different now?

If you have contributions or withdrawals, that requires form 8889 which is not included in the regular free version (and never has been).   If your income is less than $39,000 you can use the IRS FreeFile version.
