I have a 1541 reference number regarding my tax returns. What does this mean? How do i get it resolved?

1541 is an  internal code that the IRS uses to identify returns that have been "Delayed". The doesn't mean there is something wrong with your return, it could simply be that the IRS has an overflow of returns at this time and is behind schedule. You can contact the IRS directly and mention the reference the code 1541 to them.

I talked with a tax professional in my office building about the 1541 code. According to her, she has had several clients with the code whom received their refunds while the code was still showing in WMR, which might indicate that the WMR system is experiencing updating delays. She also mentioned that she has had clients with eic/ctc who had received refunds prior to February 15, and at least one client who got their refund in about a week after being accepted.
