I have a 13 year old child that I claim as a dependent, so why did I only get $1400 instead of $2800

It depends.  

 

The IRS will utilize the most recent information on file to issue any stimulus payments you are entitled to. If they process your 2020 income tax return before issuing the payment, the IRS will use that information.

At this point, the best thing to do is to track your payment using the link below to ensure you are getting both $1,400 payments for yourself and your dependent.  The 2nd payment may not have been processed yet.
