I have a 1099 misc that is not self employment

It is a uaw benifit (22.00) for Lawyer availability from my late husbands pension. Each year this is simply put on line 21 as "1099 misc benefit value" with no need to file any additional forms (like se or c) The problem is that free turbotax won't let me do that. No way is that worth 59 dollars extra to simply fill out one line.

If you receive a form 1099-MISC for a legal service plan, then you are not considered as self-employed and do not need to file a Schedule C.

In TurboTax, enter your form 1099-MISC and follow the interview until you arrive at the page titled Did this involve an intent to earn money. Answer that this did not involve an intent to earn money. The amount will be reported as Miscellaneous income and will not be subject to Self-employment tax.

In TurboTax, there is a work-around. Although you may receive this income every year, say that you only receive the 1099-MISC only in 2018, not in previous years and not in 2019, you will then have the screen where you can say that it did not involve an intent to earn money.

The program won't let me get to 1099 misc without upgrading. (60 dollars plus more for state.) This is stupid since it doesn't require anything but adding one line to line 21 and no need for any extra work (to get zero fed refund and 19 dollars state. this is a rip off.
