I have a 1099-MISC from direct sales, and the only thing on it is a box checked in box 9, how do I report that on here?

Form 1099-MISC Box 9 reports information rather than income.

Basically, the company reported to the IRS that you purchased over a certain threshold amount of their product(s) for resale. This implies that you will report this activity on Schedule C as income/expenses from self-employment.

If you did not use the purchases reported on the 1099-MISC to generate Schedule C income, you should keep records on how these items were used. Often, you make these purchases for personal use, possibly getting reimbursements from family members. You want to make sure those reimbursements, if any, are identified as non-business funds.

If you did re-sell these products for profit, the business activity is reported directly on Schedule C by following the steps here while you are logged into your TurboTax Self Employed account.

  • My Account > Tools > Topic Search > Type business  > Go
  • Enter your income and expenses for this activity
