I have a 1095-B for a dependent who's father is suppose to have paid for medical coverage last year. I'm afraid the State of Michigan will charge me fees.

This form says that if my daughter isn't eligible for the health coverage received that we will have to pay the individual shared responsibility payment. I don't know how to prove that she qualified because her biological father does not provided court ordered medical(even though her step father does provide it for her) We did not even use the medical coverage.

The 1095-B is for informational purposes only, and is not reported on your tax return. Check to see that the 1095-B is correct and shows the correct type of health insurance and the months that your dependent was covered.

It sounds like your dependent was covered all year with insurance that met the “minimum essential coverage” requirements for the year, and that her step-father, not her biological father paid for it. That’s OK. When you file your tax return, you’ll be able to indicate that everyone in your family had coverage all year.

Below is a screenshot of the Instructions for Recipient that comes with a 1095-B. Is this what you are talking about? That’s just saying that if your dependent didn’t have coverage for the entire year, you may be subject to the shared liability payment.

Also, this would be an IRS penalty, not from the State of Michigan.
