I have 1095-B Health Coverage. Why is asking me about Form 8889-T?

Form 1095-B and Form 8889 are not related. Form 1095-B is provided by your insurance provider and indicates if you had insurance for you or your family members. Form 8889 is used to report information about your Health Savings Account.

Please review your entries to see if you may have received a Form 1099-SA or entered information regarding your Health Savings Account.

Form 8889 is used to report the following information:

  • Report health savings account (HSA) contributions
  • Figure your HSA deduction
  • Report distributions from HSAs
  • Figure amounts you must include in income and additional tax you may owe if you fail to be an eligible individual

form 8889 questions can arise from two sources.   your W-2 item in box 12 coded W.  or you had your own Health Savings Account  outside of your employer ( you may have misunderstood a question and answered it incorrectly so now TT is asking about it)
