Your unemployment benefits will be included in your taxable income and TurboTax will calculate how much you owe.

To enter the unemployment benefits, please follow these steps:

  1. Click on Federal > Wages & Income
  2. In the Unemployment section, click on the Start/Update box.  On the screen, What's the total amount you receive on Your 1099-G? enter the amount of unemployment compensation received along with the other requested information.
  3. If you had taxes withheld on the unemployment payments, click on the box Federal or state income tax was withheld on this payment [It's located below the state box.]    Click Continue.
  4. You will be able to enter the withholding amounts on the next screen, Enter Any Withholding
