I had to stop my cleaning business for covid 19 in April 2020. I started back up Feb 2021. Would that be considered stopping my buisness for the tax question?

My clients did not want a cleaner coming in their homes, so I was out of work.

If you are referring to the question in the self-employed section about whether you 'disposed' of your business or 'stopped work' during the year, take a look at the information below to help you decide.  However, if you simply did not work because you did not have clients, but you intended to continue your line of work later (and you have now continued it), it should not be considered stopping your business.

Here is what the TurboTax help content says:

If you’re self-employed and simply stopped doing this type of work, answer Yes here.

You'd also answer Yes if you own a business and you did one of these things:

  • Closed the business
  • Sold the business
  • Lost the business in a fire or other disaster
  • Retired from this business
