I had to mail my Federal Tax return instead of efile that I had originally selected? How do I also mail the state tax return. I did not print with the federal retrun?

This is for Pennsylvania.

  1. Open your return in TurboTax.
  2. Click the File tab, then Continue.
  3. On the next screen, E-file Your Federal Return for FREE, select the option File by mail near the bottom of your screen. Click Continue.
  4. On the following screen, select which return(s) you want to print for mailing (federal and/or state).
  5. Continue following the on-screen instructions until you get to the Print Tax Return For Mailing screen.
    • On this screen, click Print Returns to Mail.
    • Then click Preview Print Copy in the pop-up window.
  6. Wait for TurboTax to generate your return in Adobe Reader.
  7. Once your return has opened in Adobe Reader, click the "printer" icon near the top to print.
  8. When finished, click Continue in TurboTax and follow any additional on-screen instructions.

The first page in your printout package will be the File by Mail Instructions, which will provide the mailing address and what forms, if any, you need to include.

Important: To prevent identity theft, we recommend that you mail your return from a post office or give it directly to your mail carrier. Per @herryM

I'll assume you haven't actually physically mailed it.   If you haven't actually filed at all, you can open the return interview back up, make any corrections if needed, and change the filing method to efile.

  • Log into your account, and at the Tax Home or in the section "Your Tax Returns & Documents" for 2020, look for a link "Add a State."
  • Click on "Add a State."  (That doesn't really add one; that's just to open the return.)
  • Once the return is open, you can make any changes in your return you need to, since it has not been filed (assuming you didn't actually mail it.)
  • Then go through the REVIEW section to be sure everything is still in order.
  • Then go to the FILE section, go through the screens there, and change the filing method to efile.
  • Then continue on answering all the remaining screens and at the final step click a big orange button "Transmit Returns Now."

You posted 5 times quickly in a row.  This is not a chat room, so you don't normally get an instantaneous response.  It is a public user bulletin board.  After you post something, it can take a while for someone to see it who feels like they can add to the discussion.   During the day when a lot of people are using the forum, it might be just a few minutes.  Later in the day or at night, however, it might be a couple hours or longer, or it might be overnight.

In any case, I provided you an answer in this thread that tells you how to change your filing method as long as you have not already mailed your return.  Here's a direct link to the answer:
