I got a text saying deferred taxes are due 12/31, see turbotax email 12/15. I don't know what this is about, I got no such email.

It was new in 2020.    It has to do with paying the self employment tax if you had a Net Profit on Schedule C.

The self employment tax deferral was an optional benefit. It is also a deferral rather than forgiveness, so those amounts will eventually need to be repaid. Half of the deferred amount is due on December 31, 2021, and the other half is due on December 31, 2022.

Check if you have a Schedule 3 line 12e which goes to 1040 line 31.

Thanks for the article, but I have never heard of this before today and never got an email from TurboTax as it states I should have in the text message. Seems spammy.

@classie03baby   It is NOT for having employees.  Did you have any self employment income?  If you had self employment income you got to delay paying the self employment tax until Dec31.   It was not included in the tax due you already paid.   You got extra time to pay the self employment tax.  1/2 this year and 1/2 by next Dec 31, 2022.

Check if you have a Schedule 3 line 12e which goes to 1040 line 31.

This is all very confusing.

I am self employed and filed last March expecting a significant refund. I've yet to receive it. In looking at my return I appear to have paid the full self employment tax although there is an item in Schedule C line 12e as you described above. In August I got a form letter from the IRS (letter3064c) telling me about the employer's share of Social Security tax due, zero for 12/31/21 and $503.88 DUE 13/31/22. It also states I reported a deferral of $503.88 on Schedule H of my return. There is no Schedule H on my return.

I've tried multiple times and avenues to contact the IRS but without success. HELP!
