You will go to a different area to access 1099 MISC. If you select self-employed under wages and income, you will be asked to fill out schedule C. To avoid that, please follow the directions below to delete your original entry and to put in the correct one.
- Log in to your account - Take me to my return.
- Select Federal on the left side of the page.
- Select Wages & Income (on top of page)
- Go to Self-Employment Income & Expense and select revisit. On the next page, select the garbage can and delete, then once confirm you would like to delete, select Done.
To enter without getting Schedule C.
- Go back to Wages & Income (link on top of page)
- Scroll down to Other Common Income.
- Select Show More on right
- Select Form 1099 MISC and begin answering questions to complete.

Thanks for the info! However, I am still left with my original question. If I don't need to fill out a Schedule C, why was it generated? I answered that it was an uncommon situation - a signing bonus from a payer not my employer, that it involved work like my main job (is this what's generating the Schedule C? I said yes because it led directly to my new job, but should it really be answering no? I'm not a recruiter.) I also said that it involved an intent to make money, which is the point of a new job. Which of these questions are leading to the Schedule C and, if it's not necessary to have one of those, I'd like to know which questions to answer - and how- to avoid this since Turbo Tax is generating the Schedule C.
