I got a settlement from a class action lawsuit. They included my old state of living on the w2 but left the employer’s state ID number box blank. It will not allow e file

How do I get this to be accepted? Being a class action lawsuit? I don’t know if an employers state ID number exists.

Most likely adding a State ID will get the return filed.  You can call the issuer of the W-2 to get the information need to verify the state ID or just use the state ID that is shown on the W-2 for the other income.

It’s a toll free number I have called multiple times. I leave a voicemail and still hear nothing. I’m at such a loss of what to do.

Have you Googled the lawsuit or the employers state ID number?

If the lawsuit is big enough, there may be a website that will provide information to class action participants.

Yes I have.
And what’s even more dumb, it’s a state I haven’t lived in for two years. They took tax out for that state. Can I just cut my losses and leave the state portion blank? I don’t want to get in trouble but I think it’s in the government’s favor if I do that.

You can receive a refund for the state you do not live in since the money was received two years after you moved.  You can use the federal EIN for the state, just don't enter any dashes. (example: 123456789).  This should allow  your return to go through e-file.

Use the link below to check your nonresident state for filing requirements.

Please update if you have more questions.

Ok so just to clarify.
I used the federal EIN in two places with the w2 information. I still file with the old state. And there should be no penalty or issue with the accuracy of my taxes in doing so?

You are correct.  Accuracy is most important for the income and expense numbers on your tax return for both federal and state.  The IRS is not concerned with state data and they do not retain it on transcripts.  The state(s) are looking at the income more than the numbers of the employers.  They may require an entry by the employer, but you cannot control what the employer does.

You can file your return without concern.
