I got a notice form 3531 saying electronic signatures not allowed on mailed return. Should I sign original return next to electronic sign or print a new one and sign?

On a federal tax return Form 1040 there is not a electronic signature section.

On page 2 of the Form 1040 you sign and date the tax return in ink where it shows Sign Here

You sign the original tax return.

If you did not switch to a mailed in return in the FILE tab then you were not given the mail in instructions and the 5 digit PIN was left on the form 1040 and you failed to add an ink signature.

You need to work through the FILE tab and select the option to "Print and File". That will print those forms that you are required to mail to the IRS. An instruction form will also be printed informing you of what documents you need to include in your mailed return, along with the address to mail it to. You must physically sign and date the return with an ink pin, and then mail it to the address in the instructions.

Also, do *exactly* whatever the 3531 tells you to do. No more. No less.
