I got a 1099-nec for a job referral to another company because I recommended them. I am not an employee of that company. How do i classify this income?

If if was a one-time payment, you can indicate that when you enter the form.   Search for 1099-nec and use the Jump to link.   You will come to a screen asking about uncommon situations.   Mark the sporadic activity box and self-employment tax will not be applied.
