I filed single with three exemptions/allowances last year and this year and do not claim kids and I should be filing 0 allowances ? shouldent i get more money

No, you should get less money back because you did not have as much withheld as you should have.  When you claim 3 exemptions during the year, the company takes less money out from your paycheck, therefore there's less to get back.  If claiming 0 during the year, the company would have taken out much more and there would be more to refund.
