I filed a Federal extension for taxes, do I need a separate one for Michigan?

The State of Michigan recognizes a properly filed Federal tax extension. Therefore, if you have a valid Federal extension, you will automatically be granted a Michigan tax extension.

The best way to find out is to open the State return.  Click on State.  The program will ask if you want to carry the information from your federal return to the state.  Answer yes.  Then you'll see where you can ask for an extension on the lower right side of the screen.  If you need to, click on the "file and extension" and fill out the info.  Don't forget to print and mail it today 04/17/2017, if you need to file one with Michigan.  If "file and extension doesn't appear, Michigan will use your federal request to satisfy their need.

I would say yes!  That way you'd be sure your Michigan extension is in fact requested.
