I federal taxes have been accepted, but my payment has not been withdrawn from my bank, and it's been a week. When will my payment process?

I processed my taxes via TurboTax on 3/31, and the Feds accepted it the same day. However, my taxes owed have not been taken from my bank account yet. I scheduled the payment for the next day.

Wait until up to 10 days have passed since your return was accepted.  If the direct debit has not executed by that time, call IRS e-file Payment Services at 1-888-353-4537 for more information.

The direct debit will occur on or after the date you specified when you selected the direct debit option.

See the following TurboTax article for more information and advice:  When will my tax payment go through?

That is exactly what I would expect, however it has been a week since that date I specified. I am worried about Uncle Sam not getting his money.

It's been 10 days and my payment still hasn't been withdrawn. I guess I will call the IRS on Monday.

It took two full weeks, but the feds finally got theirs. Weird. I've used TurboTax for decades, and it's never taken this long.

Just an FYI - TurboTax has nothing to do with how quickly the IRS processes refunds or payments - once a return has been filed and accepted by the IRS, all further actions are controlled by the IRS.

This year, the IRS has taken longer to do everything - process returns, send out refunds, collect payments, etc..

Why is this happening? Tax season (normally Jan 1 - Apr 15) is the busiest time of the year for the IRS. This year, they have also had to deal with major changes in the tax law, including ones that were passed retroactively in the past two weeks. They are also struggling with the same COVID workplace and workforce issues the rest of the country has encountered.

Just adding to the list of frustrated filers who are experiencing this issue. This has never happened in the many years of using TurboTax. The 2020 software is fraught with issues, and after navigating through multiple "errors" that were eventually updated, this is just the cherry on top. This has been the worst tax filing experience I have had with TT.

I do hope you are able to share my experience, as well as that of others, with your support team.

Thank you.

How do you know what date you selected?  I am not sure I selected a date and I cannot find the information ANYWHERE!  I called the number given and they told me they couldn't give me any information without the date.

The date should be listed on the instructions page which will print out with your return.   It is titled Electronic Filing Instructions for your 2020 Federal Tax Return and is usually 2 pages.  If you requested direct debit, the date should be on page 1.   If no date was choses, the default is now 05/17.    @cindysparks

Many payments have not been debited despite requesting an earlier payment date as the IRS is behind.     When will my tax payment go through?

My federal taxes have been filed. I owe. I set up pay with my bank account.

BUT  when I printed out my return there are 4 payment vouchers for each Fed and state.

Will my payment be auto deducted as I thought when I gave that information OR do I need to pay at IRS.gov?

I have the same problem right now with 3rd Q 2024 Estimated Taxes.  I cannot seem to reach the right person anywhere in the IRS system to give me guidance about a "pending" status in my account on my confirmed payment but not processed payment.  I spent over 4 hours in two sessions today trying to get to the right person.  No one seems able to find my account???  I had no problem with the 2nd Q payment and credit.  Maybe someone knows how to give the correct choices to the automated scheme?

I elected to pay what I owe for my fed return via direct debit on 4/15/2025. My e-file has been accepted by the IRS. However, there is no payment date or bank account info on the turbo tax print out. How do I confirm that a payment will be direct debited on 4/15/2025? In the past the bank info and payment date is always included in my records print out. This is also further confusing bc there is a section stating that I need to mail in my payment despite the section above stating that my payment will be direct debit.

Will any "blank" payment dates be drafted on 4/15/2025 similar to the response from 2021?

I don't have a payment confirmation number so cannot check with the IRS or cancel the payment and reschedule.

See what I copied and paste for your reference. Can you help with this?

Call IRS e-file Payment Services 24/7 at 1-888-353-4537 to inquire about your payment.

If you want to check the debit date you specified, look on the filing instructions for your return.  It will tell you the debit date the IRS or State will deduct the payment.  If you did not print them out you can view them using the following steps:

TurboTax Online

  1. In TurboTax Online, sign into your account.
  2. You should be on your Tax Home page.
  3. Scroll down to Your tax returns & documents.
  4. Select 2024, and then select Add a State (you're not actually adding a state, this just gets you into the right menu).
  5. Once you're in your return, you can navigate around as usual.
  6. Click Tax Tools (in the black bar on the left of your screen) and then click select Print Center.
  7. Click Print, save or preview this year's return

TurboTax CD/Download

  1. Go into Forms Mode by clicking on the Forms icon in the top right of the blue bar.
  2. In the Forms in My Return list on the left, click Filing Inst.  [It's usually toward the bottom of the list.]  The form will appear on the right side of the screen.
  3. You can view the form on the screen or you can print a copy by clicking the Print box at the bottom of the screen.
  4. To return to the interview, click on the Step-By-Step icon in the top right of the blue bar.

You have two options:

1. Call the IRS and cancel the direct debit and either:

2. call and confirm the debit is scheduled  or/and wait patiently for them to debit the amount.

You can't call until 7 days after filing and at least 2 days before the direct debit is scheduled. IRS Direct Debit 888-353-4537.
