I downloaded CA updates tonight for 1120S and 1040. Both returns want to reactivate. Why am I being asked to reactivate. Will reactivation delete my existing returns?

I properly activated turbo tax (Deluxe) and after many laborious hours finished my 2019 tax return.  I subsequently clicked on the Turbo Tax Icon and a screen appeared asking me to "activiate" by inserting my code.  If I insert the code to again activate will it reinstall and lose the return?  Why is Turbo Tax insisting on numerous "activations"?  This happened earlier when I didn't have much information keyed in and the return appeared.  There's too much work involved to risk doing it again.
