I dont want to upgrade, but turbotax is forcing me to do so because i sold stocks, how do i file for free?

Sorry if you use the Turbo Tax Online version you need Premier to enter investment sales.  You can try the IRS Free File programs

Free File: Do your Federal Taxes for Free | Internal Revenue Service

Or you can fill out the forms by hand for free.  or switch to the Desktop CD/Download program.  At least you can buy a lower version.  All the Desktop programs have the same forms. You just get more help and guidance in the higher versions.  And the Desktop program has more features than the online version.  Buy it here,

The TT fee is not dependent upon whether you are getting a refund or not, but rather upon the forms that you need to complete your tax return.
