I don’t want to file state with turbo tax but it won’t give me the option to file federal only

You can delete the state and go ahead and file the federal, then if you want to, come back and file the state later, or you can pay for both returns (federal and state) if you intend to eventually file both, then you will be able to select Change Filing Method next to the state return.

Here is a TurboTax Help Article that provides more details:  Filing my Federal Without my State Return

I'm using the e-file free return via the irs site.  My federal is good to go But I need to get some information together for my state return(Virginia) since I moved back to VA in August.  I deleted my state return since I need to get some items together, but the file site doesn't  now give me the option to file my Federal now, I'm not given the option anymore.  What do I do.  I want to get my Federal taken care of.  Please give me some directions since the option no longer shows up.  It keeps trying to prepare my state.  Thanks!

Here are two ways to skip your state in TurboTax Online:

  1. Delete your state return, file your federal return now, and then come back later to re-do your state return
  2. Pay for both your federal and state returns now and when you get to the Here are your filing options screen, select Change next to your state return. On the the Change filing method screen, select I'm not ready to file and Save.
