I don't have kids and need form 8812 removed from my 2021 tax form

When doing credits it asked if I paid any child or dependent care in 2021.  I answered no because I have no children.  Then when I go to check the return it tells me there's an error and I need to enter the amount of advance payment on this form, which shouldn't be on the return to begin with.

I tried deleting the form and that doesn't work.  I see no way to remove it.

Everyone has to answer whether they received advance child tax credit payments.   If you did not receive any of those payments between July and December you need to answer that you did not receive any payments.

There are so many scenarios with those payments---like divorced/never married parents who have issues over who received the payments, who claimed the children, etc. --- the software has no way of knowing if any of that involves you---so you have to answer the questions about it.

Please follow these steps to indicate you did not receive any advanced payments:

  1. Click on the "Search" on the top and type "Child tax credit"
  2. Click on “Jump to Child Tax Credit”
  3. Continue through the questions until the "Tell us about any advance Child Tax Credit payments" screen and select "No".
  4. Continue through the questions.

I appreciate the quick response.   Just seems odd to me.  They should ask "do you have children" and then if you say no, it's skipped.

@JoeJoe52 "do you have children" would just open a can of worms with all of the possible ways the CTC was paid.   They have to know if you got the advance payments under any possible set of circumstances.

I really appreciate the help.  I realized that my concern was that it doesn't get filed with the return, and from what I can see in the review it does not.  I don't mind answering the questions, I just don't want some erroneous form filed with my return that has absolutely nothing to do with my situation.
