I don’t have a US phone number, so I couldn’t recover my old [PII removed] account and created [PII removed]. How can I disregard the 48-hour hold?

I don’t have a U.S. phone number, so I couldn’t recover my old TurboTax account under [PII removed]. I created a new account using [PII removed] to file my 2024 tax return. TurboTax sent me an email saying there’s a 48-hour hold on my return because I used a different account. Can I ignore this email and wait for the 48 hours to pass and still expect my refund without further issues?

Can you get into your new account and prepare your return? Without knowing exactly what the message you received says, it's hard to tell.

The IRS is not officially accepting returns until January 29.

Hi Catina, thank you for your response!

To clarify, I’ve already filed my 2024 return using my NEW 2024 account because I couldn’t recover my OLD account (used in 2022 and 2023, harmsen2003).

I received an email saying there’s a 48-hour hold on my return due to using a different account.

The email states that if I don’t contact TurboTax within 48 hours, the return will be filed automatically in accordance with IRS regulations. Since I can’t contact support via a U.S. phone number, can I just wait for the 48 hours to pass without taking further action and still expect my return to process normally?

Thank you for your help! I guess i should just ignore this email and wait the 48 hours... and except my refund in 21 days after that?

I would think after the 48 hours it will be submitted. You can use the Where's My Refund site on the IRS to monitor the processing of your return.

Once your return is filed, TurboTax has no control over the processing of your return or the release of your refund.

Here are a couple FAQs to track your refund:
When will I get my federal tax refund?
How do I track my state refund?
Why does Where's My Refund say "approved" but TurboTax still says "accepted"?

Why do some refunds take longer than others?

What if my IRS refund is taking longer than 21 days?

Thank you, Catina!

I’ll wait for the 48-hour hold to pass and monitor the status with the IRS Where’s My Refund.

I hope there are no further issues beyond this 48h wait.

I appreciate your help!
