I did not work last year but would like to file so the IRS has a record. How do I file a W2 if i did not have an employer and made zero income?

You cannot file a W-2 if you don't have one.  A W-2 is the Wage and Tax Statement issued to you by an employer.

Thank you for your response.  Is there any form i can submit to have a record?  This article says it's perfectly legal to file a return showing zero income and that it may be a good idea.

Go ahead and file according to the link you have.  But you will not be able to e-file a zero income return.  It will have to be mailed.
