I closed my bank account and didn't realize that my estimated tax payment where debited from it.

I caught it when I was setting up the automatic withdrawals on the EFTPS site for the new tax year. How do I amend my return correctly?

You only amend for a tax situation, not a payment situation. You can contact the payments department:

  • to cancel a direct debit 888-353-4537
  • other payment issues 800-316-6541

IRS will adjust your return if you put the wrong amount of Estimate dTax payments.

and, if necessary, bill you.

That's ridiculus,

Use 1040-X line 13 to correct the amount of Estimated Tax paid, and pay shortfall before April 15th
