I can't install downloaded version of Turbo tax to my Macintosh

I'm not sure how I messed up and now I'm not sure what I did.  I probably clicked on the dmg file and got a picture showing a checkmark with TurboTax premier 2020 underneath on the left, then "Drag TurboTax here" with an arrow to the Applications folder.

On my desktop I have what looks like a picture of a CD with a red checkmark in the lower left and "TurboTax Premier 2020" on the bottom.

I thought that is what I was supposed to drag into the Applications folder but it is just a 2KB alias.

I am running on OS10.15.7 Catalina.

Please help.  I am a senior trying to use TurboTax for the first time.

Do you get that screen or window he posted?  You drag that red circle with the white checkmark over the black arrow to the right.  Just drag that red ball at the left end of the black arrow.

Thanks for the link but it hasn't helped yet.

It says (1)

"double-click your TurboTax download's dmg file, which will mount a virtual drive

on your desktop. The drive should automatically open."

When I double-click on the dmg icon I get the same imagine showing that I should drag TurboTax into my applications folder.

Directions part 2: "

Follow the directions in the pop-up window to

drag the red "TurboTax checkmark" icon to the Applications folder in the pop-up window.

Don't drag it to the Applications folder already on your Mac. It needs to go into the Applications folder in the pop-up."

Now I did something and I see a Google Chrome icon with an arrow to an applications folder but what next?

Is there a viseo or illustrated step-by-step instruction that shows exactly what I should be doing?

Thanks

Mounting the .dmg file is all internal Mac OS stuff.     When mounted it should look like this and simply drage the app to the Folder as it says.

Is the "app to drag"

a picture of a CD with a white arrow on red background in the lower right corner with TurboTax Premier 2020 written at the bottom

If I drag that into my main applicatios folder I just get a 2K alias that just brings up the same image that shows me to drag into the Applications folder.

The directions say to "

drag the red "TurboTax checkmark" icon to the Applications folder in the pop-up window."   I am not seeing a pop-up window with an Applications folder.

The pop-up window is the entire screenshot that I posted.

Try restarting the Mac or delete the .dmg file and re-download it as it might have been corrupted in transmission.

This icon is on my desktop. If I drag it into my main Applications folder I just end up with a 2K alias, not the application.

I am supposed to   "

drag the red "TurboTax checkmark" icon to the Applications folder in the pop-up window."

but I haven't seen the pop-up window.

  What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for any further advice.

Sounds like you original just dragged the app to you desktop rather than the applications folder.    I suggest that you delete that and re-download the install .dmg file and start over.

That was it - drag to the applications window in the pop-up itself.  I thought it was just telling me what to do as an illustration...  Obvious now but not what I was used to with other installs.

That is the standard Apple install window and method for any applications that used the Apple developer tools.   The software developer can add their own icon (such as the TurboTax icon) but the Applications folder and method is always the same.
