I attended a workshop and was paid $1000.00. How do I report this extra income?

Depends on how it was/will be reported to you and to IRS. If part of an employer program, should be reflected in your W-2. If reported via Form 1099-MISC, then Box 3 = 'Other Income', Box 7 = 'Self Employment'. Who pays you, Why, How, for What, and When?
