I am widowed ans want to find out if I can file as HOHH or if it would do any good? I do not have any dependents to claim.

Spouse passed away during 2017

Your legal filing status would be married filing jointly or married filing separately.

Spouse passed away prior to 2017 (assuming you haven't remarried)

Your legal filing status would be single, since you have no dependents.
