I am using Turbo tax free onine and live in Texas. The IRS moved the filing deadline to June15. IS turbo tax taking this into account when i file later then April 15?

In Turbotax, there is a question about "are you affected by a natural disaster".

In any case, Turbotax doesn't care if you are on time or late, that's determined by the IRS when you file according to your address.  (In other words, if you claim an extension but are not in an affected area, the IRS will disallow it.)

If you owe taxes, they must be paid by April 15, even if you have until June 15 to file your return.  If you are expecting a refund, it doesn't matter if you are late or on time because the penalty for filing late is a percentage of the tax you owe, so if you are expecting a refund, there is no actual penalty for filing late.

Yes.    TT knows that residents of TX have a delayed deadline and so does the IRS.

Wish you did your homework before answering since your answer is WRONG. The IRS gave Texas until June 15 to file taxes instead of April 15 INCLUDING paying taxes with out any interest or penalty, so our filing date was moved to June 15. the reason I asked the question was to see if turbo tax made the changes to reflect this when people are filing after April 15 that live in Texas.  There is no extention we have to file.

As xmasbaby0 said, TurboTax is certainly aware of this, and will roll out any changes (if any are needed) in due course.

As you can imagine, TurboTax employees are extremely busy at the moment dealing with the flurry of tax issues that have changed on a day-by-day basis. Since Congress, the IRS, and the states are "moving the goalposts" every day in terms of what is expected for 2020 returns, it is difficult to predict when any one change will be implemented.

Also note that the IRS announced just the other day that they were including all 77 counties in Oklahoma and 64 parishes in Louisiana in these changes.

There is no question that changes are needed.  Make the changes.  I paid for TTax Deluxe Federal 2020.  Give us what we paid for.  Make the necessary changes.  Please don't make excuses.

The problem is that I use TT to e-file and direct debit of my tax payment. TT has yet to allow Texas residents to have direct deduction from a bank account after 5/17/2021 even though Texas residents are given the extended deadline of 6/15/2021 due to the cold weather disaster. It has been many weeks since this option became available and yet TT has yet to make this change. It refuses a direct deduction scheduled for later than 5/17, Texas resident or not.

@Bill148

then just select “I will pay by check“ and then make your own payment arrangements at a date of your convenience. The IRS accepts electronic payments at www.irs.gov/payments, or you can mail a check.

I agree with others.  I live in Texas and do not want to pay before I have to on June15th.  May 17th is this week and still no changes for those of us that live in Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana.  I paid for TT Deluxe Edition and feel like I am not getting all that I paid for.

Read the answer right above your post. You can either mail in a check or pay directly online at the IRS website. Just because the program isn't allowing a date past the 17th doesn't mean you can't pay past the 17th.

Turbo Tax's failure to recognize the June 15 deadline for Texas, LA, OK residents has more than academic consequences. I just tried .. it will not let me calculate the IRA contributions I can make to reduce my taxes..

The deadline for IRA contribution has also changed. So Turbo Tax' lax attitude will hurt many tax payers.  If that happens, I will seriously consider giving up on Turbo Tax... I have been using it since before 1990.  But if Turbo Tax doesnt care for me, what good is my hanging around..

Same problem for me.  I am in Oklahoma.  Is the answer to just say the contribution was before May 17 2021

Unfortunately the turbotax software seems to look at the current date and not even open the topic.. saying the deadline has passed..  so your suggestion wouldn't work..

Hopefully TT is monitoring this community and paying some one to pay attention to what we say !

TurboTax only asks for 2020 contributions or 2020 contributions made before the May 17 filing date.   Enter in the before May 17 date.  TurboTax has no way to know when the actual contribution was made - the current date has noting to do with it - you might just be filing late.

Enter IRA contributions here:
Federal Taxes,
Deductions & Credits,
I’ll choose what I work on (if that screen comes up),
Retirement & Investments,
Traditional & Roth IRA contribution.

OR  Use the "Tools" menu  (if online version under My Account) and then "Search Topics" for "ira contributions" which will take you to the same place.

If you enter any IRA contribution in the personal deductions section (IRA Contributions) It allows the deduction.  I answered that mu contribution was between 01/01/21 and 05/17/21.  If you are trying to add a contribution using the IRA Calculator tool under "Other Tax Situations" it says time has passed.

Intuit had months to update TT for the June 15 filing deadline in several states.  They just blew it off.

Ha.  The entries for Form 1099-B have been in the wrong order for years.  I called TTax.  Response was, "huh?"  Just reuse the same code every year.  I'll definitely be looking at alternative products for next tax season.

This thread is about the Texas due date and IRA contributions.   A 1099-B reports stock sales and the order of the sales is irrelevant - your question makes no sense since there is no order.

As of June 15 still no update to Turbo Tax for filing date.  Would not let me file for extension electronically and now will be mailed in LATE.  Thanks for NOTHING Turbo Tax.

@Jimboge01  The

IRS

closed e-filing for extension requests after May 17.   If you live in one of the states that had the filing extension for the winter storm, your income tax return filing deadline was automatically extended by the IRS to June 15.   But if you wanted a longer extension---to October 15---the only way to get that was to MAIL the form 4868 to the IRS between May 18 and June 15 if you did not e-file the extension request form 4868 by May 17.  An extension never gives you extra time to pay tax due.   It gives you extra time to prepare your Form 1040 and file it.   If you are getting a refund, there is no penalty for being late.
