I am trying to file my 2019 taxes LATE ( we'll get a return, no taxes owed). Turbo Tax keeps defaulting me to a 2021 return form?

Can i file my 2019 taxes (2020 return) via Turbo Tax?  I cannot seem to access anything but the 2021 return forms.  TY.

Sorry 2019 is closed for online and Efiling.  2019 is now the prior year.  And you are too late to use the free service.

You now have to print and mail prior year returns.  Be sure to attach copies of your W2s and any 1099s that have withholding on them.  You have to mail federal and state in separate envelopes because they go to different places.  Get a tracking number from the post office when you mail them for proof of filing.

How to finish a return you started online

To do a prior year return you have to buy the Desktop program here,

https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/

You will need a full Windows or Mac to install it on.

If you want to file for free you can fill out the forms by hand.  Here are some basic forms.....

Here is the 2019 1040 return

or if you want bigger type use 1040SR for Seniors,

2019 Instructions https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/i1040gi--2019.pdf

2019 EIC and Tax Tables https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/i1040tt--2019.pdf

2019 Schedules 1-3

https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s2--2019.pdf

Don’t forget your state.  And you will have to print and mail your returns.  So be sure to attach copies of your W2s and any 1099s that have withholding on them.  You have to mail federal and state in separate envelopes because they go to different places.  Get a tracking number from the post office when you mail them for proof of filing.

FYI - Then when you file 2020 next year you will need to enter 0 zero for the 2019 AGI since you are filing 2019 late.

Proper terminology to keep things straight:

... a 2019 tax return filed in 2020, is only to be called a 2019 tax return, and it contains 2019-labelled tax forms.

............. the 2020 tax returns filed in 2021, should only be called 2020 tax returns, and, when fully updated, it contains 2020-labelled tax forms.

(with the exception of the next year's 1040-ES quarterly estimated tax vouchers...which one sometimes needs ahead of time)

_______________

The year refers to the full tax year's data that is being filed at any future date.   If one delays filing their 2019 taxes until 2022...one should not call it a 2022 tax return.....it's always 2019.

And you get a Refund or have a Tax Due.  The return is the 1040 form you are filing.
