I am stuck on my 1099-int form because it says the federal ID number is invalid even though turbotax took it directly from my bank. Could it be because it is an E.I.N?

Delete the entry by clicking the Delete trashcan and enter the form by hand.

EIN is not a required entry when entering an IRS form 1099-INT.  You will enter your 1099-INT as follows:

  • Down the left side of the screen, click on Federal.
  • Down the left side of the screen, click on Wages & Income.
  • Scroll down to Investments and Savings, click Show more.
  • Click Start / Revisit to the right of Interest on 1099-INT.
  • Click Add investments.
  • At the screen Let's import your tax info, select Enter a different way.
  • At the screen OK, let's start with one investment type, select Interest.  Click Continue.
  • Click Type it in myself.
  • Enter interest information.

Ouch. I'm not sure but I'd look closely at the EIN to be sure there is not an extra dash or a space at the end that might be triggering this error. There might also be some hidden formatting?

On a windows computer, what I'd do is copy the number into notepad (which will remove any hidden formatting and show all the characters of text)....  then copy it from notepad back into TT to see if that clears the error. EINs are normally what are on 1099-int so that is not the issue.

Then maybe try not using any dashes?

I hope you are able to work through this TT error soon!

Peace be with you.

Same problem of requesting State ID encountered in 2024 return. In the last stage of transmittance of efiling it asked for Tax ID

I opened the 1099 INT Worksheet.

Entered zero in the places where it was blank

In the State selection at the end I selected Multiple States from the drop down menu

Went back to filing

It transmitted successfully
