I am filing married, filig sperately. Our divorce will be final in 2020. I should not be Head of Household, it lists me as such, it won't let me change it, what do I do?

Under certain circumstances, a married person is allowed to use the Head of Household filing status.  This occurs when you and your spouse have not lived in the same household at all for the last 6 months of the tax year and you pay over half the cost of maintaining the house for yourself and a dependent child.

If this situation applies to you, the Head of Household filing status is generally more beneficial on your taxes than the Married Filing Separate filing status.

If you still wish to use the Married Filing Separate status, go to the My Info section of your return to change your filing status from the TurboTax recommended choice.

Take a look at the following TurboTax article for more information:  Can a married person claim Head of Household?
