I am filing individually but I am using my turbo tax joint account. How can I separate our filing?

You will have to create a new online account and a new User ID if you are going to change your filing status from Married Filing Jointly to Married Filing Separately.

You cannot file both returns using one account when you file online.  If you are using the joint account, you can use it for just one of your and select Married Filing Separately.  Then you will need to create a new account for the other person.

Another option is to use the desktop version, then you can e-file up to 5 returns using the one program.

Yikes you can’t.  You each need to setup new accounts and not transfer from 2023.   Online is only good for 1 return per account.  But you can use the same email address for 5 accounts.  You can start another return in TurboTax Online by:

  1. Logging out if you are in your account
  2. Choose what TurboTax Online product you want to use for the second return
  3. Create your account screen
  4. Set up a new login for the second return
  5. Start working on the new return

The Desktop installed program can do multiple returns and efile 5 federal for free.
