I am filing 1st time & child ITIN W7 applied with manual filing federal returns in Mar .NJ State returns need ITIN .Can i file extn for Fed now that cover state extn?

Hope We can file fed extension after manual submission and it will not impact earlier submitted manual fed return.

Rather than file an extension, you can mail the state return with a copy of Form W-7.

Thanks for quick reply. Looks like Copy of W7 can be given for Spouse/self in NJ.
But for dependents , the NJ guidelines says copy of W7 cannot be used.  'https://www.nj.gov/treasury/taxation/noticeformw7.shtml
"Note: You cannot use a copy of Form W-7 (or W-7A) in place of a valid Social Security number, ITIN, or ATIN for a dependent."

2. Please clarify if filing extension for Federal now will impact the already submitted manual submission of 'Federal return and W7 for child dependents' package.  Do i need to file Fed return again since extension is filed after manual submission.
As Fed extension automatically applies to the NJ state too,  i can file NJ state returns in single step as soon as ITIN is generated .( i have no tax due and only refund in NJ).

If you already filed a return with your W7 application, there's no need to file a federal extension.  Regarding the extension for New Jersey, send the extension by mail, attaching a copy of your W7 forms. You can file the state return when the ITIN numbers come in.
