I am eligible for the IRS' FreeFile program, but TurboTax will not let me file without upgrading to a paid version. How do I file and use the FreeFile program?

You have to setup a new account with a new username and new password or it will take you back to regular Turbo Tax .

The Turbo Tax Free File program which is free for federal and state.  And has more forms than the Federal Free Edition, like Schedules A, B, C , D, E, F, EIC, H, K-1, SE,  etc.

To qualify for the Tax Freedom website  you just need to meet one of these 3 things
AGI $34,000 or less
Active duty military with AGI of $66,000 or less
OR qualify for EIC (earned income credit.)

In order to use the Free File program, you have to start it at a special website.  Click on the bottom Orange button I Qualify Start Now and set up a NEW account

I did this and Turbo Tax is still trying to charge me for an upgrade to Deluxe. I created a new account and everything from the link.

You need to sing into turbotax at freefile.intuit.com from a webrowser not the app you installed on your phone. You can not sign in with the app or it will keep you in the free-to paid program. You can use your same user name and password. You do not need to create a new account but you may need to use a different phone or remove the app from your phone to make the free site work.
