I am chronic ill person. my itemized deductions exceed $208k. Should I use a lower number? is there a maximum?

I want to get the maximum refund back, even if I don't utilize my itemized deductions. Please advise

Your income tax refund cannot be more than the amount withheld from your taxable income, unless you also receive some refundable credits.   You say you have itemized deductions --- how much tax did you pay during 2021?  How much was withheld from your paychecks, etc.?

@1975chantel Very sorry to hear about your health problems.   Sorry but you cannot get a tax refund for that.   If you did not receive the 3rd stimulus check you can use the recovery rebate credit to get the stimulus check ---the credit is found in Federal Review.    And you can get the amount that was withheld from your paychecks as a refund.   If you have dependent children under the age of 18 you can get the child tax credit even if you did not work in 2021.
