I am babysitter for my granddaughters and I don't get a W-2 or paystubs from my daughter. My daughter claims my payment as dependent care expenses. How should I file?

You will need to file a schedule C. The income from your daughter will be treated as self-employment income (assuming the total is more than 400 dollars).

If there are no deductible expenses, you will be able to enter the income in the Premier version of TurboTax without an upgrade. If there are expenses that you would like to deduct from the income your daughter paid, you will need to upgrade.

Follow these steps to find where to make your entries:

  1. Go to the Federal Taxes category.
  2. Go to the Wages and Income subcategory.
  3. Find the section labeled Self-Employed, and click show more.
  4. On the line labeled "Income and Expenses" click start or update.
  5. If you indicate that you have expenses, the program will upgrade your version to the higher priced "Self-Employed".
