I am a F1 student that recently married to a U.S. citizen should I update my W4 file to married filing jointly?

I'm an F1 student that has been in the US for 7 years, currently being considered a resident for tax purposes. I recently married a U.S citizen and I was wondering if I should update my W4 to reflect my marriage, change from single to married filing jointly? Should my wife change her W4 status also?  Thanks in advance.

Changing your W-4 to your correct marital status and selecting the correct number of allowances will result in a more accurate calculation of the amount of tax withheld. After you do that, you will see how much federal tax is withheld.

If you want to verify whether that is enough withholding or not, you can use the TurboTax Taxcaster calculator to estimate what your taxes will be for the year.

You can also use the IRS W-4 calculator: http://apps.irs.gov/app/withholdingcalculator/
