how would I go about entering my PIN number and actually using the automatic e file amendment alteration to fix my rejected return as it is advertised?

I have been on and off the phone with support and the AI assistant as well as troubleshooting with the literal IRS trying to e file my amended return for my 1098-T form so that I can finally get my money back for the extra I paid for tuition costs. Everyone involved told me that im shit out of luck, turbotax support basically telling me that because ive worked too many jobs and my wage has changed too drastically that the IRS wouldn't approve my refund even if I did get my PIN corrected. I feel like I have to be missing something but my support team is so incompetent that they seem not to know either. I have seen no end to stress due to this and a community post is my last bet. I feel something must be wrong with the website as even support seemed befuddled when there wasn't a "fix my return" button on the website. Any pointers are appreciated.

You initially stated that you required a PIN.

There are two possible PINs involved.

  • When you filed your initial return you entered a 5 digit PIN on the return.
    • Am amended return would require that same 5 digit code.
    • This code was one that you made up, and no one else has.
  • The second type of PIN is IRS generated, and is a six digit number
    • You typically enter ID.me on the website of the organization or agency
    • It protects your access

It sounds like you need the ID PIN that you originally entered on your tax return

If all else fails, you can mail the amended return.
