How do you have two SSNs?  If you already filed, what’s your question now?

My bad. I created another account thinking my stimulus check will be processed quicker if I do it this way. :(

No, I don't have to SSNs. Duplicate. Same SSN's but two email addresses. When I submit my tax 2019 return again using my main email address it is saying that "I already sent it". Is it going to delay my stimulus check?

You created two TurboTax accounts with the same SSN,  so far, that’s not a problem.  You filed a tax return with one and a non-filer report with the other?  That should not be a problem because whatever you did second should have been rejected by the IRS.  What did you do and in what order?

You submitted a non-filer report first and then your tax return second?

Thanks for a quick reply sir. I am glad to know it's okay to use another account.

On April 9, I was preparing my tax return to be submitted. I watched a youtube video regarding how to get the stimulus check quickly using a different account. So I followed her advised. Now, I feel like I am the only one who did not received it.

I don't think its quick because until now I haven't received it. Or maybe I will get it this week. Anyway, thank you so much!

Well, you shot yourself in the foot on the tax return issue.  The only way to file your tax return now is to print your return, sign it, and mail it to the IRS. You will also need to print and mail any state tax returns. You can only electronically file one document per tax season, by telling the IRS you are a non-filer this year, they are going to reject your tax return as a security precaution. So you have to mail it in.

Unfortunately, the IRS is not processing paper tax returns at this time, due to the coronavirus emergency. When they do start processing paper tax returns again you should expect there to be a large backlog. So if you are expecting a refund from your tax return, you should expect it to be in substantially delayed.

I don't have two SSN. However, when I click on the "Transmit Returns Now" button it informs me that "... a tax return with the same ssn has already been submitted..." I have NOT submitted my taxes yet... Where do i go from here??

This happened to me also using Turbotax. I tried to update my info with the IRS last month using their new "Non-filers site in order to attain my stimulus check. But recently when i went to efile my taxes using TurboTax my taxes were rejected do to a "duplicate filing error". My question is,what can i do to fix this and file my taxes?

Is there a way to let the IRS know what has transpired and lift the error code. Do you thin the IRS realizes this is becoming a problem and may fix it intenrally?

Here is the Turbotax Help site that allowed me to figure out what had happened to me.

A "non-filer" return is an official statement to the IRS that you will not file a tax return this year.  So of course they will block anyone who tries to e-file a tax return in your name, since you already swore you wouldn't, so in their eyes is it likely to be fraud by someone else.   In fact, the IRS web site says right at the top of the page,

The IRS never handles secure matters over the phone, and they don't take phone calls now anyway.  You need to print your return, sign it, and mail it in.

There is no procedure now to undo this, to allow you to e-file, and there probably never will be such a procedure.  Just mail your return.

If you did not submit a tax return with another company, AND you did not submit a non-filer information to get your refund faster, you might be the victim of identity theft.  You need to print and sign and mail your tax returns.  You should check your credit reports for signs of fraud.

If you did submit a non-filer form to try and get your stimulus payment faster, then that counts as a tax return and you can't e-file twice in one year, so print and mail your tax return now.

@Coler12

If you submitted the non-filer form, it was processed by the IRS as an original filed return with 0 income.  Any subsequent filing cannot be filed electronically; it has to be mailed in.

You have three options to correct this:

  1. If you amend your return with a Form 1040X it will be processed like an amended return.
  2. You don’t need to fill out the 1040X to get your return processed.  All you need to do is indicate in a cover letter to your 1040 that you filed a return to get the stimulus check and that this is a corrected return.
  3. Or, you can just write ‘1040X amended return’ on the top of the paper 1040.

I also messed up and did this - so I'll be mailing in my return.  I will end up owing $ - after doing some research, I need to submit my check with a 1040-V - is that correct?  And if so - do I send my check and 1040V separate from my return, or can I put them in the same envelope?  Thanks!

@jefums

You can send your check and the 1040-V voucher together with your return in the same envelope.

I used the stimulus update link provided by the social security website and now I am unable to eFile because of this.  Looks like I'm not the only one with this issue.

The Economic Impact Payment’s Non-Filers tool (or any other Stimulus Registration Tool) was not intended for use by taxpayers who also needed to file a tax return with the IRS for tax year 2019.

If you used the Non-Filers tool to register for an Economic Impact Payment, you cannot now file your tax return electronically.  You must complete and print a paper 2019 Form 1040 or 1040-SR tax return, write “Amended EIP Return” at the top, and mail it to the IRS.

If you owe tax, you should pay it in full by the July 15 due date.  Interest will be charged after July 15 on any amounts that are not paid by July 15. For more information, visit the Amended EIP Return page.

@mrkeithg   -   This is directly from the IRS website and is your only option to file a 2019 tax return if you registered for a stimulus check..

The answer is the same as posted by the Turbotax employee just above your question.  You can't e-file.  You must print your return and file by mail, and write "Amended EIP return" on the top of the first page.

See this IRS web site. https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/amended-eip-return

So what do i have to do to get it fix

If the social security number that is duplicated is yours, then most likely your ID has been stolen.  If it is a child's then someone else possibly claimed the child.

Unfortunately, you will not be able to E-file with the Error of Duplicate SSN.  You will have to Print and Mail your return, with a note explaining why you mailed.  You must sign the printed return prior to mailing.  Attach all W-2s, 1099s and any income documents.

Now mailing your return will be as official as e-filing.  You should send the return with signature required to track it.  TurboTax will not be able to track it once mailed.  IRS will only communicate with you at this point.  On your note please put your phone number and an email address so that they can contact you to try to Resolve this issue.
