How to get Turbotax to use the standard deduction for federal, but itemized deductions for CA, even if my total deductions are less than the standard deduction for CA?

My wife and I file separately.  We each take the standard deduction for federal.  For California, it is much better for my wife to itemize. Therefore I must do the same, even though my own deductions are less than the California standard deduction.

 

Is there a way to get Turbotax to do this?  Last year I processed my federal and California returns in Turbotax with the standard deduction, and then I had to do manual overrides to force Turbotax to use my itemized deductions for California instead of the standard deduction.  

 

Is there a way to do this without having to resort to manual overrides?

I do not believe that is possible in the online versions.

 

If you are using the CD/download desktop version then switch to the firms mode and view the CA Information Worksheet Part V and check the box as below:
