How to get TurboTax to fix a mistake it made

TurboTax has screwed up my address. I live abroad, and although it has my correct address, on various federal tax forms it has put the information in the wrong boxes. For example, the name of the country has been put in the City box. So then Turbo wants to know what state I live in, and all sorts of errors are created. How the F do I get TurboTax to fix this?

There are various other problems related trying to use TurboTax as an international resident.

It is EXTREMELY offputting that TurboTax provides no customer support, and this to deal with shortcomings in the TurboTax program.

Here is how to enter a Foreign address in TurboTax online:

  1. Sign in to TurboTax and open or continue your return
  2. Select My Info from the left menu
  3. On the Personal info summary page, select Edit next to Taxpayer
  4. Go to 2. Tell us the state(s) you lived in and select Foreign or U.S Possession from the dropdown list (it's all the way at the bottom)
  5. Select the Continue button at the bottom
  6. Select Edit next to  Mailing Address and choose Foreign country from the Type of mailing address dropdown list
  7. Input your address in the appropriate fields, select your country from the dropdown list, and select Continue

You can also e-file your return with a foreign address. Review the link below to see how:

I thank you for this detailed answer. Unfortunately it did not fix the problem. The problem occurs on the Form 1099-DIV Worksheet where my correct Personal Info is transferred to the wrong boxes. Thus TurboTax thinks there is an error on the return, but the error is within the Turbo software.

The 1099-Div worksheet (and other worksheets as well) transfers your address automatically from your Federal info.

Worksheets are not filed with your return, and are for your records only.

Since people move, the addresses on their documents (1099's, W-2's, etc.) are often not their current mailing address when filing their tax return.

The Recipient Info shows at the bottom of the Form 1099-Div, transferred from the Federal My Info.

If you're using TurboTax Desktop, you can uncheck the box on the 1099-Div Worksheet to transfer the Federal info, and it will be blank (or you can enter a different address).
