FEIN means Federal Employee Identification Number.

You only are required to have one if you are self-employed and you pay employees.  If you are self-employed but don't pay employees, you might want to get one anyway, since that way you give the EIN instead of your personal SSN to subcontractors etc.  You can apply online here. https://www.irs.gov/businesses/small-businesses-self-employed/apply-for-an-employer-identification-n...

If you are not self-employed then you don't need an EIN and won't benefit from having one.  Your personal identification number for tax purposes is your social security number.

Are you starting a business, and want to apply for an EIN? Whose Employer Identification Number are you seeking? Individuals don't normally use or need one; They file using Social Security Number
