How to file my foreign earned income?

Hello there,

I earn an income (student allowance) from my foreign employer who has sent me to go to school (full-time) here in the U.S.

This income is deposited into a foreign account and isn’t taxed in the foreign country that I am employed at. How do I file this income using TurboTax?

thanks

Yes, you can report this as other income by the following procedure.

  1. Log into your account
  2. Select Wages and income>other income
  3. Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099>start
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the page to Other Reportable Income
  5. Other taxable income, answer yes
  6. Then give a brief description of the income and the amount listed.

Thank you! Do I follow these steps even if it is my only income?

Yes, but only if the income exceeds your filing threshold. In 2023, your standard deduction is $13,850 if you are single or $27,700 if filing Married Filing Jointly. if your income is below your standard deduction amount, you do not have a filing requirement.
